I wrote a piece about the amazing designer Samson Soboye during the Africa Fashion Week London Here and I loved his designs so much that I decided to style one of his outstanding piece : A cleverly designed collared bib made in cotton wax prints fabric with tie straps for fastening. That can be worn under a jacket and looks like a shirt or over a shirt/t-shirt/tank for a smart but casual look like in this case.
I first fell in love with this topper when I saw it on the runway. As you know, during Fashion shows ,what is seen on the runway isn’t always directly applicable to an everyday style except if you are an avant garde or riske type , but it is always possible to glean some inspiration and make them our own. The model on the runway was wearing the collared bib under a silk dress(which you can check here). But for this look, that we shot on a lovely afternoon in the heart of trendy Shoreditch, I decided to wear it over a long sleeve cotton white shirt.Paired it with some fiery shorts, then to compliment and tone down the vibrant colors ,the earthy tone tweed jacket was added for an overall modern Afro-city look.
African prints can be very ethnic and seasonal which is why some will be very apprehensive in wearing them, especially during colder seasons or in general. But learning how to layer them with modern pieces or adding little element of accessories is already a good step to take.So in this new year, join me in the AFRO-CHIC style gang and be stylish all year long!!!
