The New Athleisure

This track sweatshirt is probably the most ‘in your face’ item I own in term of athleisure. The new athleisure if you aren’t familiar with the term, is when fashion clothing designed for workouts and other athletic activities are worn in other settings, such as at the workplace, school, or at other casual or social occasions.

Athleisure outfits are yoga pants, leggings, and shorts, that “look like athletic wear” and are characterized as fashionable.

And about the Brazilian colors, it all happened when I stumbled on IZA through the popular page of Instagram. IZA is a Brazilian R’n’B singer, that I’m currently very inspired by, I find her beautiful. And her energy and style in her videos, especially this one (Here)  make me want to wear the most daring clothes I own.

Until then, here is what I came up with, plus the Koba Siania skirt. Remember when I had the pleasure to interview here and style her creations?

I was recently approached by Fashion4Africa to styled their upcoming campaign. Fashion4Africa is a project that supports emerging models and Fashion designers of African origin in the UK and Africa through mentoring, training and development projects funded by fundraising events.

For this particular photo shoot, Most statement pieces used as ornaments, headpieces are all Nzingah pieces of jewelry, by the talented Bev Quintal who is an incredible designer. I will elaborate more on her accessories in another post. But for now, all I can say is: her pieces are probably some of the best I have seen. So I really got creative with them here.Styling one as a hat, headpiece, and even a visor. I really appreciate how Anna( the director ) let me get creative but not too much because I can go slighy overboard if left unattended, lol.

Also, while styling for Fashion4Africa, I found out, they advocate for change in the perception ‘African Fashion & Beauty’ with the help of various African Fashion media houses. that contributes to elevating the hopes and aspiration of the young, emerging models and designers of African Origin in the UK and Africa who will also be our future entrepreneurs.

For this shoot, it was all about showcasing the best of these 3 models who won the face of Fashion4Africa competition. I then used a modern and yet traditional take on the Afro-Chic to style them.

Like in the first picture, they scream warrior, feminity, unapologetically powerful and proud of who and what they represent which I always try to portrait in my work. Nonetheless, this wouldn’t have been possible without the great hairstylist and makeup artist and Anna, the director. Shot in a South London photography studio by FemelleStudio.

Please do not hesitate to share your thoughts and which one your favorite picture.xoxo

If flower-print wearers never seem to stop turning the heat for Spring and Summer, I don’t think there’s going to be any less of an obsession when it comes to these stripy lines, which are one of this year big trend. With almost every major designer during  New York fashion week choosing this as their pattern du jour.

Designers were also set on styling these from head to toe too. As seen on Rosie Assouline, Banana Republic, Atuzarra, Red Valentino…Shows.

I personally do like this full-steam-ahead attitude. So I paired the flattering gingham bodysuit top with the woven, high waisted stripy trouser and tied the striped knitted jumper around the neck to create a relax and cool girl style. This look is perfect for sunny days on weekends, holidays by the beach or just that girl who effortlessly exudes style and confidence.
