This year, I attended my first Afro Hair and Beauty Live London.

One will think: with me wearing Afro hair, I will be all over these type of events.

The truth is: Yes, I like my hair Afro or any other Afro hairstyle; but I am just not a hair girl. I do a hairstyle I like, I stick to it. Or I use a good product, I stick to it. I am much more adventurous with fashion and jewelry.

So, I was pleased to be invited by the organizer of the show I met earlier that month at the Screen Nation Awards. As it meant, time or me to discover new products.

The event spammed over 2 days, but I only attended the first day.

The Afro Hair and Beauty Live London had: The fashion & Lifestyle exhibitors section

Among which I had the pleasure to catch up with many brands I have worked with before.

The area was a buzz with a mix of upcoming and established designers displaying their latest collections. So, if one visitor was looking for unique pieces and accessories, it was the perfect place.

I also met up with Tahlia Gray, creator of SheerChemistryWith who I have also worked with in the past on her brand commercial.

She is just everything Afrochic stands for. Then, top it off, I got offered 2 pairs of Sheer Chemistry tights. Can’t wait to wear them soon.

Stage Show and Competition

There were two fashion shows each day from established and upcoming designers. And the designers showcasing also had exclusive pieces, available to purchase on their stalls in the fashion area.

Then, I met with Diana Dahlia, a radio personality I recently co-hosted  Happy Days, a radio show on Behind The groove Radio. ( Listen HERE)

Some of you might have had a peek on my Instagram, But your girl  A.K.A me has been doing radio too. Woohoo!!!

They say:  if your dreams don’t scare you, then you aren’t dreaming big enough.

Well, my dream life since Cameroon has always been the’ UGLY BETTY‘ type of lifestyle. With me being Betty, but with a Wilhemina confidence and style.

So, for the past few years, and at this stage of my life, I can say with confidence, I am living the dream! My Dream!

It is not always pink or glamorous but I am happy to create a life that challenges me to be my best. I came, I saw, I am conquering; one magzine at a time.

All this to say, I made it to the SPRING/SUMMER issue of Stylist magazine.

I wrote a piece about the amazing designer Samson Soboye during the Africa Fashion Week London Here and I loved his designs so much that I decided to style one of his outstanding piece : A cleverly designed collared bib made in cotton wax prints fabric with tie straps for fastening. That can be worn under a jacket and looks like a shirt or over a shirt/t-shirt/tank for a smart but casual look like in this case. Creative woman at work Fur will forever remain a statement. It was everywhere during this fashion week season from Gucci fox fur to Dries Van Noten faux leopard capes.

Faux fur coats are usually offbeat and cool, but they’re also remarkably affordable, super-warm, and (obviously) animal-friendly.

So for my first outfit, I took a futuristic approach and if, like me, you are someone who is not afraid to dare and to turn the street into your private catwalk ,then this outfit is for you or at least some elements of it.

The top is a vintage gem with diamante and stone details, while the sparkling skirt is made of polyester and was a trend seen during fashion shows of the likes of Dolce&Gabbana, Vincenzo and Fendi. The faux leather belt  comes with a golden bar that just takes the outfit to extra mile.Together worn with some open toes ankle boots.

The second outfit is very much for the creative and sophisticated woman at work. I wore the faux fur gilet with a cotton peplum skirt that I matched with a sequin collard synthetic top. I added a gold belt to highlight the waist and the red pump for a touch of colour.

The third outfit is all about prints mix for the working lady, who is not afraid to play with fashion and stands out. The Ralph Lauren grey polka blouse is classic. Paired with a fitted paisley print cotton trouser.  I added  accessories which are quite important for this outfit,as they really accentuate and bring a contrast in colour to the whole look.

For me faux fur is as stylish as real fur with the massive difference being on the price tag and the treatment to animals. The designer Hannah Weiland who is a favorite among street style slideshow states that faux fur is just as soft and warm, it holds color even better, and it doesn’t get dusty.”She also states “I’ve never worn real fur and never wanted to work with it, even though faux fur was typically made of cheap polyester”.

On the other hand we have Thomas Salomon, general manager of Yves Salomon who is specialist in real fur business and priced one of his real fur coat around $1,700 and states “the coat is an investment, but it’s one that millennials and brand-new customers can justify. Other mink and rabbit coats in the collection might ring up closer to $10,000.It’s our responsibility to know where the fur is coming from and that the animals are well treated,“We’re using a natural material that eventually biodegrades”.

So with this forever argument going on between faux and real fur in fashion,What are your thoughts on it? And How do you style your fur?
