When thinking of new ways to wear African prints for all seasons,
wearing the usual Ankara dress in Autumn will not just cut it. So wearing a bag made of it seems more like a sensible idea.
Living in London and finding New ways to wear African prints for all seasons is not an easy task.
Ankara is still a very seasonal fabric, which is why Africans in Africa can easily wear it all year round thanks to the beautiful tropical weather. Unlike in Europe, and precisely the UK where we somehow end up with 9 months of cold weather.
As every year, I assisted at the African Fashion Week London to see what the designers created for the season. T my surprise or not, most styles on the runway were either very seasonal or just too repetitive.
To see my favorites, refer to my previous post.
I would really like for Afrochic designers to be more creative with this fabric. Just like Stella Jean or like when I saw the Soboye’s collection 2 years ago and got obsessed with the Afrochic movement.
In this look I have on, the bag is a Aiinomoh creation. A Nigerian brand I met at the African Center Summer festival(which was amazing by the way). We had a long chat about the future of African fashion.
She has only been trading for a few months and she told me the growth of interest of African made products is there and promising.
So after our chat, she gifted me that handbag that I have been rocking ever since.
