Hi there !
I am Cecile Essono, style blogger, fashion stylist and self-titled Afro chic Queen 😉 . I am from the fantastic country of Cameroon and I made London a home for the past 6 years.
As a child ,I used to make sophisticated clothes for my dolls and I was very good at it…I always had the thought that when I grow up I wanted to become the greatest fashion designer Cameroon has ever known .But unfortunately or fortunately maybe, back in Cameroon ,creative jobs usually don’t take you very far in life.
This was one of my main motivation to come to London, which is an amazing city, where fashion is at its epitome.
While doing modelling works , I had the opportunity to meet wonderful creative friends and mentors who inspired me to believe in my dream.I used the modelling opportunity to learn how to use fashion as an armor of beauty and confidence to conquer my fears and uncover my true character. After a few years working as a model, I took an important step in my life, which led me to become a fashion stylist
here on Modebycece.com
where I am constantly challenging style & fashion, which is forever evolving. I am also now joining YouTube
to provide my wise audience with weekly fashion updates.
Thank you for all your love and support and please do not hesitate to contact me, if you ever need help to unleash the fashion genius, who is sleeping somewhere in you.
So I went to lunch by the Canal with a friend the other day, and I absolutely wanted to look the part and match the scenery.I went on for a total stripes look.
I wore a just below knee flared skirt, nicely fitted around the waist and very wide at the bottom .Made of a lightweight cotton so just perfect for a sunny or hot weather.
I also had a round neck shirt with its opposite stripes details on the sleeves which was overall of a loose fit, also made of cotton and can easily be styled with more items than one.
Striped shirts were originally sailor uniforms. As they were designed to help distinguish the sailor from the wave so you could find them more easily if/when they fell over.Back then,a lot of French navy were from Great Britain. So they called the shirt;Breton and displayed 21 stripes. One for each Napoleon’s victories against the British. And since then(1930’s) Breton stripes have become a real fashion staple.
So there you have it!! a naval clothing turned into a wardrobe staple by the French. Note of Caution
: When wearing a Breton stripe, remember wearing head to toe stripes can easily make you look bigger than you are or like a Zebra, well except if that’s the look you are going for.So if you aren’t too sure, one stripy item at the time is all you need for the Breton look. But if you are bold enough to wear more than one stripy item, there should be a little clash in colors or size of the stripes.
Additional tip: Breton stripes absolutely look great with denim distressed jeans or just a complimentary plain color. So I let me know how you will be styling your stripes.
This past weekend, I had the privilege to style for a modelling agency .When styling a photo shoot,I am constantly adjusting the model’s attire, making sure all the details are in the right place. Therefore comfort in what I wear is always crucial as I am always on my feet.
I wore this knee length pencil skirt that I got recently. It has a zip and slit at the back for a precise fit and I love the blue pattern on the skirt. Which for a safer option ,could have been paired with a black tank top or simply a white T-shirt.But as the risk taker that I am,I went for an all prints contemporary look with this long sleeve prints shirt from Orla Kiely;which always have a fun approach to fashion with their unique retro prints and designs. Therefore giving the whole outfit a modern 70’s flair.
So if you have been playing safe with your style until now why not try some prints on prints action this Autumn?I will suggest you start with the most minimalist you own and then gradually be more experimental until you get comfortable .
