west-end-night6I might have been born in the 90’s but the 80’s glamour remains a favorite. Especially when it comes to making a statement.Finding something to wear for a night out in West end is usually most women nightmare or where the fun actually start for others.

But in this particular evening,I channeled a 80’s glamour look.Which consisted in a neon silky one shoulder dress, paired with dark brown tights and a rose gold pumps to compliment the silkiness of the dress. Then I added a statement necklace and a vintage pair of earrings as back in the 80’s,more was more and that resonates just fine with me.To finish, a faux fur jacket was a must to exude an overall Afro chic 80’s glamour.

Ladies here is the trick to easily find what to wear for a night out:

  1. A body con dress, preferably just below the knee(you don’t want to be that girl who keeps pulling her dress down all evening…)
  2. A fitted pencil skirt in a color of your choice + cute blouse or  shirt.
  3. Then, for any of the look, add a sequin jacket or a fur coat as outerwear.
  4. Finally for the shoes,a black or a complimentary color of heels and you are sorted…In style!!

Ps:An alternative for this fur coat, will be a classic black or navy trench coat.

Creative woman at work Fur will forever remain a statement. It was everywhere during this fashion week season from Gucci fox fur to Dries Van Noten faux leopard capes.

Faux fur coats are usually offbeat and cool, but they’re also remarkably affordable, super-warm, and (obviously) animal-friendly.

So for my first outfit, I took a futuristic approach and if, like me, you are someone who is not afraid to dare and to turn the street into your private catwalk ,then this outfit is for you or at least some elements of it.

The top is a vintage gem with diamante and stone details, while the sparkling skirt is made of polyester and was a trend seen during fashion shows of the likes of Dolce&Gabbana, Vincenzo and Fendi. The faux leather belt  comes with a golden bar that just takes the outfit to extra mile.Together worn with some open toes ankle boots.

The second outfit is very much for the creative and sophisticated woman at work. I wore the faux fur gilet with a cotton peplum skirt that I matched with a sequin collard synthetic top. I added a gold belt to highlight the waist and the red pump for a touch of colour.

The third outfit is all about prints mix for the working lady, who is not afraid to play with fashion and stands out. The Ralph Lauren grey polka blouse is classic. Paired with a fitted paisley print cotton trouser.  I added  accessories which are quite important for this outfit,as they really accentuate and bring a contrast in colour to the whole look.

For me faux fur is as stylish as real fur with the massive difference being on the price tag and the treatment to animals. The designer Hannah Weiland who is a favorite among street style slideshow states that faux fur is just as soft and warm, it holds color even better, and it doesn’t get dusty.”She also states “I’ve never worn real fur and never wanted to work with it, even though faux fur was typically made of cheap polyester”.

On the other hand we have Thomas Salomon, general manager of Yves Salomon who is specialist in real fur business and priced one of his real fur coat around $1,700 and states “the coat is an investment, but it’s one that millennials and brand-new customers can justify. Other mink and rabbit coats in the collection might ring up closer to $10,000.It’s our responsibility to know where the fur is coming from and that the animals are well treated,“We’re using a natural material that eventually biodegrades”.

So with this forever argument going on between faux and real fur in fashion,What are your thoughts on it? And How do you style your fur?

fall-for-brown fall-for-brown1  In this serie of fall for brown is all about that time of year where less skin is shown and most colors get tonned down.

1-I wore this outfit for lunch during my stay in Cambridge a while back.It is about playing with  different shades of brown and earthy hues. The cropped and tailored jacket is a perfect piece for this time of the year.

The texture of the fabric is worn but with authentic detail. The A line tie die  skirt has a splash of blue between the tones of brown which brings a lovely highlight in the two tones.I paired the outfit with my beloved red ankle Casadei boots bringing a contrast accent to the whole look. Also to keep up with the earthy tones, I added the an artisan pair of earrings.

2-The second outfit was worn when I went shopping for boxing day in Central London. The style is all about comfort and mixing yet matching different textures. With the wide velvet pair of trousers which is a favorite ,paired with a denim shirt, a wardrobe staple. But could also be paired with a white t-shirt for the cool girls and a pair of converse trainers if you just can’t be bothered with heels. Then I added the chocolate brown wool grid trench, which is nicely tailored with modern finishes.

3-The third outfit,is the smart and sassy lady who has an edge. With the layering of a black turtle neck tank under the sturdy wrapped up kimono. Perfect for work, a meeting with clients or ladies of creative field on an Autumn day. With an addition of the classic Prada Saffiano bag.Overall we have conservative look, yet thought-through.

With fashion constantly travelling back and forth, I like to think that whatever we wear, doesn’t have to belong to a specific time of trends,so that we are simply never out of fashion and always try to remain true to myself.

So this Autumn/winter consider shade of brown as a substitutes for black and style your favorites with mellow tones. If brown isn’t for you, find a way to bring different shades of the same color ,by adding different styles and graphic print patterns.

PS: Don’t underestimate the elegance of a conservative ensemble. If well-fitting and properly styled, modest pieces become more stylish than stuffy.

So let me know, how will you be styling your shades this winter?Share with me.Let’s talk fashion!!!

Black for halloween

With me being Cameroonian, there are celebrations I am not used to such as Halloween. I’m still trying to understand why people have to hang out down the streets, wearing scary costumes, which really do freak me out….

For this year celebration of Halloween, I hopped on the trend with fashion and I was in a mood for black…The color black is usually known to be elegant and easy to wear, so,  even though it is not my favorite one, I decided to build on a black color tone to create my Halloween costume. I came up with a stylish outfit version of  Dracula, that I named Blackula.

Blackula Outfit

This military style trench coat is a mix of cotton and polyester with the red satin on the reverse that adds a fresh element to the outerwear option.Underneath,I layered  a cropped tank with an oversize off shoulder cotton jumper.Paired with a Soft-touch scuba high waist skirt. Then for the shoes,I opted for a studded straps details and zipped ankle boots.

The best part is I could compose with a moderate budget and create the blackula outfit with items available on the high street:

  • Trench coat:Mark&Spencer
  •  Jumper:Vintage
  • Cropped tank & tights: Topshop
  • Skirt: Asos (on sale here)

I would love to know about your Halloween fashion outfits so please do not hesitate to send me pictures and describe what inspired you. Please share your views with me in the comment section below.

P.S. A great alternative to this coat will a biker jacket (like here).Or if the skirt is not for you,try a pair of distress skinny jeans
