A few months ago, I did a research on Peruvian fashion for a photo shoot I was styling for . I found out that, in Peru, apart from being influenced by the western world in general, the fashion sense in traditional areas came from the Moche pottery which is the most known cultural heritage of the Mochina civilization of the northern of Peru.
The artistic creativity and variety of Peruvian culture is a class of its own.The traditional ceramic art uses a limited pallet of colors. Relying primarily on red and white as well as Fine line paintings and fully modeled clay.
Due to the amount of dominating civilizations in Peru which massively influenced their current style, and where designers also draw their inspiration from the Inca patterns which is from an ancient American civilization.
Most Peruvian clothing has geometric patterns and vibrant colors.
The wool of the Alpaca is mainly used. A woman is often recognized by her hat that often reflects the culture of her region and her village or by a lliclla which is the traditional shoulder cloth.
The Peruvian traditional skirts worn by Andean women are called Polleras. They are colorful and made from boyeta and wool;usually layered three or four times at once at festival times.
Obviously after finding out about all this fascinating culture, I decided to have a take at the Peruvian fashion and add and Afro Chic touch to it. As you know, Colors and Afro chic are best friends. So for this look, I sported an oversize blazer, which was a very important aspect to recreate, from the jacket that balanced out the proportion of the denim flare, to the Eye wear that accentuates the whole look.
